I think National Goegraphic is about bringing the world to your front door. Its about eticing adventure ariasing adrenaline. Nat Geo has always taken some of the most spectacular, and absolutely breathtaking photographs ever caught on camera. Most are relatively simplistic, with a clear cut focus: bring the pages to life. You have never been to africa? Open up the magazine, I'm sure you will have as much african spirit as you will find in any other place (obviousely excluding africa). I believe that nature is often overlooked. That it fades into the backgrounds of our busy lives and something that was held most sacred to our far ancestors has become a meer tool to our present lifestyles. And the phrase "stop to smell the roses" cannot get much more clear cut. Do it. Just stop. Smell them. They are full of rich fragrance, teasing your nostrils, watering your glands, a small jholy of sher extacy shocks your body. But only for a moment. Then its gone like a dove. So you whif again, and again. National Geographic reminds you exactly how fortunate we are to live here.

The picture i have shown here, is a perfect example of bliss, yet serenity. Alone. In the middle of the ocean. Not a sound but crashing waves on the boat hull, and a gleaming sky full of stars. Can life TRULY get much better then that?

I'm not thinking so.....

This, the photographs simply remind us, is why life is so beautiful. Why life is so complex, and so simplistic. I think what they do is empowering. Photographs hold a thousand words, as they say, and Net Geo's photo's seem to have a lot to talk about. I used to aspire to become a photographer for National Geographic, they always seem to find themselves in uncharted places, and in mysterious new worlds, far far away from city lights and newsvine clippings.

I agree that photos can speak a lot. It is like that saying "a picture is worth a thousand words." And in relation to English they can incorporate all three of the rhetoric elements, ethos, pathos and logos. A picture can invoke emotions in an individuals, it can also make a point, as well as invoke a question in an individuals mind. National Geographic is a great magazine. Its like you can open up a page in the National Geographic magazine and it is almost like being in that place. It really helps to open up the world to all of us and make it seem like a smaller place.

A picture speaks a thousand words, isn't that the saying? I think that people our age skip across magazines such as National Geographic because of the title (come on, I hate Geography!) and do not give it credit for the beauty in the pictures, the reality in the articles. The picture you picked up there is beautiful, and your right, it does give the impression of bliss and serenity, of peacefulness.

I love this picture and this article. I completely agree with your analysis of National Geographic. It bring nature up in your face. Photos speak a million words. This could be one of my favorite pictures because of how clear and defined it is. It also shows how beautiful water is and how amazing nature is. National Geographic shows us what the world looks like in locations that we might never visit and places that we will be missing out on.

That was a very powerful post; I loved it. I'm always amazed when people are able to interpret pictures and artwork so many different ways because I can't. Everything you said was so interesting, though, especially about the pictures showing bliss and serenity. That one you placed there is such a beautiful and peaceful picture, it makes me smile and just want to relax

Your article gave me goose bumps. I loved every second of it. All the description, the rhetoric the appeals to our senses, it was amazing. I have o say I agree, we let nature fall to far into the back drop of our lives. Today I went to the beach and can honestly say I thanked god for the beauty, as corny as that may sound. The waves and the water were amazing. My life had gotten so hectic lately that I hadn't taken time to just look at something and enjoy it in what felt like forever. It was almost as if for a second, i could drowned out all the noise and the headaches and just limit the world to myself and the waves.
